Thank you for choosing Dr. Sexmith"s clinic to care for your child's eyes. We want your experience to be as pleasant as possible. We encourage you to talk to your child about some of the following before their eye exam to increase their comfort and yours too!
Eye exams are an important part of maintaining our overall health. Even a child who cannot read can have an eye exam with an Optometrist. It is recommended that a child's first eye exam be done by the age of 3, and then annually while they are school aged.

Hi there!
We are so happy that you are coming to visit us. My name is Dr. Meg Sexmith, you can call me Dr Meg I am an Optometrist. Do you know what that is? It's a Doctor that looks at your eyes!
When you come to visit me, we are going to play some games that help me to keep your eyes healthy. Sometimes I am going to need you to sit very still. Can you show me how still you can sit? Great!
When I look at your eyes, I use a big light like a flashlight. I turn off the lights in my room so my light can work better. Can you show me how you turn off the lights in your room? Perfect!
If you need some help sitting still, or sitting in the dark, you can bring one small toy to hold. We are not going to give you any shots so don't worry. One thing I might do is use some drops. They feel a little like when you open your eyes under water in the swimming pool.
Some kids who come to visit me get to wear my special mask. I'll show you when you get there. The game we play is to find the letters that are too small.
We are looking forward to seeing you!
